field notes from an unreliable narrator

storyteller scratching at all three sides of the truth

A powerful contralto with a love of language, Montana Jones writes elemental, Southern-inflected songs that are at once witness and counter-witness, offering a perspective that resists singular truth. Borrowing heavily from literary influences, her work balances in the space between testament and testimony.

Montana began her music career as a bassist, and during solo shows, she accompanies herself with an acoustic bass to craft a distinct sonic identity that beckons close, careful listening to her unique sound and densely wound lyrics. Backed by her bandmates, the set expands from intimate folk to theatric folk rock with a dynamic, seismic intensity that lends an urgency to the music.
